What the ACR form is

ACR stands for Application for Certification of Roadworthiness. A roadworthy certificate is generally needed when a vehicle changes ownership, and in other circumstances where the vehicle's condition must be certified.

One thing that's distinctive about this form: it identifies the applicant as the person presenting the motor vehicle — which isn't necessarily the owner. If you're taking someone else's car for its roadworthy, you're the applicant.

What the form asks for

  • Identification of the applicant — the person presenting the vehicle. The form notes acceptable identification is essential.
  • Class of vehicle — bus, goods vehicle (excluding trailer), motorcycle type, or other.
  • Licence number and vehicle register number, if available — the form makes provision for "not allocated," for a vehicle that doesn't have one yet.
  • Language preference — English or Afrikaans.
  • A declaration that the particulars given are true and correct.
