What the NCP form is

NCP stands for Notification of Change of Address or Particulars of Person or Organisation. It's the official form used to tell the traffic register that something about you — or your organisation — has changed.

Most commonly, that's a change of address. But it also covers a change of name, and changes to an organisation's registered particulars.

When you'll need it

  • You've moved house. Your address on the traffic register is now out of date.
  • You've changed your surname — after a marriage, for instance.
  • You're renewing your driving licence and your details have changed. The government's own renewal guidance notes that the NCP is completed alongside the DL1 in this case. It's the step most people only discover at the counter.
  • You're doing a vehicle transaction and your registered particulars are no longer current.
  • If your details are out of date on the register, notices — including renewal reminders and traffic notices — may be going to an address you left long ago.

What you'll need

  • Your ID — green barcoded ID book or Smart ID card.
  • A proof of your new address, generally less than three months old.
  • The completed NCP form.
