What is the ADV form?

The ADV (Application for Deregistration of a Motor Vehicle) is the official form used to deregister a vehicle — when it has been permanently demolished, scrapped, or exported. Deregistering removes it from the system so you're no longer liable for it.

  • The titleholder/owner, or an authorised proxy/representative for a company.

What you need

  • The vehicle's registration details and registration certificate.
  • The reason for deregistration (scrapped/demolished/exported).
  • For an exported vehicle: the country of export.

When do I deregister vs change ownership?

Deregister (ADV) when the vehicle is permanently off the road — scrapped, demolished, or exported. Use the NCO/RLV instead when the vehicle is being sold to a new owner.
